Def Leppard Star Allen Opens Children's Center
Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen is to open a centre for children with special needs in his native England on Saturday (24Jul10). The kind-hearted rocker is patron of kids' charity Amy's House and has been helping the organization raise funds for new premises in Sheffield, England.
The volunteer-run center offers support for families, and the new building - complete with secure outdoor play area - will be launched by the star on Saturday, along with the city's Lord Mayor, who will release balloons to mark the occasion.
Allen tells the Sheffield Telegraph, "As someone whose life has been touched by a family member with special needs, you understand just how important a facility of this nature is in the provision of invaluable support not only to the child but also those close to them." (LR/WNWCBBM&WNWC/ZN)
