The guy behind the guy behind the guy, internationally-acclaimed trailer voiceover genius Don LaFontaine has passed away. The sixty-eight year old checked himself into hospital-to-the-stars Cedars-Sinai for a collapsed lung and died quietly Monday.
According to Fox News, LaFontaine lent his voice to over five thousand movie trailers and several hundred thousand odd commercials, most recently that Geico advertisement where he played that announcer guy.
Have you ever heard trailers from the pre-Don LaFontaine era? Horrible. Don’s voice truly added both intensity and credibility to hundreds of movies, some of which deserved him and some of which didn’t. We here at Cinema Blend would like to send out our thoughts to his family, friends, and all those touched by this tragic loss.
