Blu-Ray Gets The Royal Treatment With The Duchess

Blu-Ray Gets The Royal Treatment With The Duchess Get ready to put on your Keira Knightly - I’m so serious in my period piece face, because On December 28th, Paramount Home Entertainment will release The Duchess on DVD and Blu-ray.

When Georgiana Spencer (Keira Knightley) marries William Cavendish (Ralph Fiennes), she becomes part of one of Britain’s most elite families. William’s status as the fifth Duke of Devonshire makes Georgiana the Duchess of Devonshire and, with that, a woman whose life is filled with deception and scandal. What starts as a simple love for aristocracy and her ability to outshine all those around her, becomes a passion for political influence. While all the citizens of 18th century Britain adore this “It Girl,” her husband chooses to betray her. It isn’t until she realizes the power to find love rests in her own hands that Georgiana can set her personal priorities straight and choose the correct political action for the welfare of the country.

This historical film is accompanied by an appropriate list of bonus material. After watching such an historical piece, odds are, you aren’t looking for a gag reel. You are going to want more information about the characters and the era in which the events took place. This is where two of the three featurettes offered will come in. One, “How Far She Went … Making the Duchess,” explores the life of Georgiana Spencer Cavendish and the second, “Georgiana In Her Own Words,” does the same, but from the prospective of those who have done extensive research on Georgian’s life. For those of you who will be taken by the unbelievable costumes in the film, there is a final featuette for you as well. “Costume Diary” takes the viewer into the closet of the Duchess, who was well known for her fashion sense.

During the holiday season, most people are looking for a more family-oriented and uplifting film, but for those of you who are looking for a dose of drama, you may choose to celebrate the New Year with The Duchess. You can opt for the movie alone for $19.99 or upgrade to the movie as well as the bonus material for $24.99 on DVD or $29.99 on Blu-ray.
