Although not carrying the same special effects fire power as The Dark Knight or Iron Man, one of the best movies of this year is The Visitor. While that sounds like some sort of alien invasion film, it’s actually a quiet movie about a professor (the excellent Richard Jenkins) who comes out of his shell thanks to the two illegal aliens living in his New York apartment. While there are some political overtones, the movie is more a human connection story and well worth checking out. Fortunately for you, it is heading to Blu-ray and DVD on October 7th.
The extras on both the Blu-ray and DVD are the same. Writer/director Tom McCarthy and Jenkins provide a commentary, there are some deleted scenes, the trailer, and a behind-the-scenes featurette. The real key here is the movie, though, and Jenkins Oscar-worthy performance. Now is the time to check it out. You can also check out the cover art for both versions below.
