R.I.P. Richard Biggs

Richard Biggs, of Babylon 5 fame as Dr. Franklin, has passed away, as per Joe Strazynski's postings on the B5 Usnets have informed B5 fans. His cause of death is unknown at this time- but he'll be missed. Dang. More news as I can get it.

That's sad news. He was only 43.

Quote:
I was awakened today with several phone calls from cast members and Doug to
pass along the terrible news that this morning, Richard Biggs passed away.

We're still gathering information, so take none of this as firm word, but what
seems to have happened, happened quickly. He woke up, got up out of bed...and
went down. The paramedics who showed up suggested it was either an aneurysm or
a massive stroke.

His family members have been informed, and all of the the cast have, as far as
we can determine, also been informed.

This is a terrible loss for all of us. Richard was a consummate professional
but more than that he was an honorable, stand-up guy. If he gave you his word
on something, you never had to wonder about it afterward. He was always
helpful and supportive of all the cast, even those who only came in for one
episode, always with a ready smile and determined to do whatever it took to
make the scene work. He was, quite simply, a terrific guy, and everyone here
is just devastated at the news.

More word as this develops. We may try to have some kind of fund raiser to
help give whatever assistance may be helpful for his kids.

We all miss him terribly.

jms

Tay, didn't know you were in any way, shape, or form, a Babylon 5 fan.

And it really does suck when someone dies young like that- onlyu 43. It's like the Billy Joel song, "Only the good die young". Biggs was a very convincing actor who clearly enjoyed his profession, and was very much into the whole Babylon 5 universe. At least he gets to join another late, great, doctor in the big beyond- Deforest Kelly.

I'm not a devout follower or anything like that (never saw the TV movies or Crusade etc) but I watched most of the original series when it first aired. I liked it, even inspite of the questionable quality of the infamous Video Toaster rendering

Well, count yourself lucky you didnt see the movies, by and large. The only one worth seeing is In the Beginning which is about the Earth-Mimbari War. You'll cry watching that. A Call To Arms was fun, if only as a nice lead in to Crusade.

But you've gotta admit, as the series went on, the effects work got better and better.

They're working on something new, but no word on what yet.
