The company may not sound awfully familiar to most gamers, but it doesn’t mean that what they do isn’t extremely important in the process of making games. Plastic Wax is expanding their business ventures, and this can only mean good things for the gaming industry, and an equally good thing for gamers.
You may have played games such as The Darkness, Hitman: Contracts, BioShock or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. I bet you didn’t know that Plastic Wax was one of the companies responsible for the CG work that was put into those games. Pretty spiffy work, eh? Well they were only warming up, because they have quite a few other titles lined up for 2009, including 2K Games’ Borderlands and Rockstar’s Mafia II.
The company has acquired 30 key members filling areas such as animators, lighting leads, and rendering specialists. In-engine work has also begun within Plastic Wax studios, and the company is aiming to work even more closely with developers, in addition to amping up their production of motion-capture, video and audio production.
“At this point we are making strategic moves to make sure the right people and technology are in place so we can continue to offer unmatched CG and motion capture services to those leading the way in entertainment.” Says Plastic Wax’s CEO, Roger Maddams.
