Now that Blu-ray has a headlock on the high definition DVD format, Microsoft says it has "no plans" to use Blu-ray technology in its game console.
said a Microsoft official in an email to GamePro on Monday. “Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available.”
These statements gainsay a report from the Economic Daily News that Pegatron Technology secured an order from Microsoft to assemble Xbox 360 consoles with internal Blu-ray drives. They expect to ship the units by the fall.
Microsoft remains stubborn in its approach towards Sony’s BD-ROM technology. Who do we believe with these contradictory reports? Either way, nobody would blame Microsoft if they decided to install a Blu-ray drive into their consoles. Unfortunately, many suspected this ever since their HD DVD peripheral became moot.

It seems like only yesterday when Microsoft was denying rumors about XBox Elite.
We all know how that turned out.
