Today shall be a fun day to point and laugh at pathetic people. Over at his blog, Major Nelson gave us the heads up on steps Microsoft is taking to deter cheating on Xbox LIVE. For those who have violated the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use they are being branded a cheater, and then mocked by all of us who are bemused at the myriad of idiots who think being superior at Call of Duty 4 makes them a better person. No, it just makes you better at COD4.
Of course, the people who actually bother me are those who use dubious means to boost their Gamerscore. Seriously? You need that number to go up so bad that it takes gamesave tampering and other cheats? That is a sad life to live, and anyone who gets labeled a cheater should hang their head and just walk away. Oh sure, we’ll get the usual forum outcry of, “But it was my little brother!” I don’t care. Your account, you’re responsible. I’ve had my 360 for about 10 months now and never have I had a desire to cheat for Gamerscore. I play and enjoy the points I do get. It’s a satisfying feeling to grab the Smokin’ Style achievement in Devil May Cry 4.
According to Major Nelson these are the steps being taken to curb cheating:
The cheater’s Gamerscore is set back to zero
They will be unable to get all previously “obtained” achievements. But fair acquirement of future achievements is allowed. Perhaps even encouraged.
The account will be labled as a cheater for us to mock.
