Each year The Flaming Hobbit Spirit Award is presented to the actor or actress
whose body of work is most consistently in keeping with the ideals and
principles of The Flaming Hobbit.
This year, we present The Flaming Hobbit Spirit Award to William Shatner, a man
whose overacting has spanned decades of enjoyable and high quality work. Most
well known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise,
Shatner has also appeared in numerous television shows such as T.J. Hooker and
The Twighlight Zone and continues to make his presence felt in film. But most of all, Shatner is a part of our culture. Beyond legend, he has become myth, and beyond myth, he is the ultimate embodyment of The Flaming Hobbit.
Some might say Shatner's acting is bad. I say it's misunderstood. Whether
staring down a murderous Gorn, or seducing a green-skinned slave girl, Shatner
is a hero, not only to this little Hobbit, but to millions of people world-wide.
Bad actor or not, Shatner is an icon and one of the most magnetic presences
ever to grace the silver screen. His oft mocked voice is one of THE most
recognizable in entertainment today.
