| Is
The Matrix Part of a Vast Pauly Shore Conspiracy?
I am now convinced that The Matrix was the worst thing to happen to the movie industry since Pauly Shore. Yet at the same time, it is for certain that not only is The Matrix one of the Film Hobbit's all time favorite flicks, but it is assuredly one of the most groundbreaking films of our time. It is without a doubt the Star Wars, or the Wizard of Oz of this generation. But in the short term, the landslide of Matrix wannabe's and copycats threatens to drown movie goers in a flood of pathetic attempts to cash in by using The Matrix's effects, whether they are appropriate to the film or not. The end result is a slew of ridiculous and inappropriate uses for Matrix like effects. You see, the FX used in The Matrix were constructed in effect to give its characters "super powers", thus for a fight scene between normal human beings they are useless. Evidently most studio producers have chosen to totally ignore the fact that The Matrix had a storyline or plot to go along with its FX and have decided that if people liked this stuff in The Matrix, it would be great ANYWHERE! Now, EVERY film insists on using them, whether they are warranted or not. Suddenly, Tom Cruise can defy physics and Wesley Snipes can move at the speed of light all for no other reason than that it "looks cool." Forget the fact that it is physically impossible for an FBI agent to levitate, or the basic truth that if you get shot 6 times you WILL die, not shrug it off and keep on kickin ass. Filmmakers TAKE NOTE!
This is crap and sooner or later the movie going public is going to wake
up and realize that just because an effect looks cool doesn't mean it
should be used. Yes, suspension of disbelief is necessary when going into
a good action film, but that disbelief can only be bent so far until it
breaks. It's called believability, look into it. |
