Yesterday, in one of the strangest marketing schemes in recorded history, soft drink enthusiasts Dr. Pepper offered everyone in the entire United States a free beverage if Guns N Roses could get off their asses and deliver there long awaited Chinese Democracy album by December 31st, 2008. Less than twenty-four hours later, the red-haired frontman has responded in well, vague, noncommital drivel.
Posting on the band’s official webpage, Axl said, “We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album Chinese Democracy, as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him.”
Two dudes on one Dr. Pepper? Seems a little shady to me, but for a finished copy of Chinese Democracy, I’m willing to overlook just about anything.
