Finally, we’re going to get some real hip-hop back on the airwaves and the shelves, Dr. Dre’s long anticipated follow-up to 2001—actually released in 1999. It’s been almost 10 years in the making and he’s finally creating the seeds of his comeback.
The album will be called Detox, and according to Dre, it’s an album that he’s waited for the right moment to put out, making sure that was something that he wouldn’t be ashamed to put his name on: “I'm just now - over the last couple of months - starting to feel that it's going to be right and it's something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it” (USA Today). He adds, “In a perfect world I'm shooting for a November or December release.” Though not exactly a fall release, it’s one that’s been sought after for many years now.
As to what his plans are for the future following the release after the album, Dre says, “I'm going to put this record out, promote it, tour and then become a hermit. I'm going to stay in the studio and produce.” The Good Dr. has certainly made his mark on the music world—the hip-hop community, in particular. It’s surprising to note that this is actully only Dre’s third full-length solo endeavour. But, let’s be serious. The only thing that truly maeks any difference is that the persona that launched over 10 million records sold keeps his grip on music’s collar bone. There’s no possible way that anyone truly in love with music could ever forget about Dre.
