It's been a bad week for super-group second bananas. A couple of days ago The Grateful Dead lost yet another replacement keyboardist, last night Billy Preston, often known as the fifth Beatle passed away. He was only 59.
Preston was recruited to record with the Beatles by George Harrison and performed on the album recordings of Let it Be and on Get Back. He wasn't just a spare Beatle, he also played with the likes of Neil Diamond and The Rolling Stones. He also wrote the Joe Cocker 1974 hit You Are So Beautiful. Preston had been in a coma for some time, after suffering kidney failure brought on by a lifelong drug addiction.
