Fresh off his brilliant cameo in Jimmy Kimmell’s “I Fucked Ben Affleck” video, smooth-voiced crooner Josh Groban is making plans to release a live concert CD/DVD package. Awake Live, which was recorded during an August 2007 gig in Salt Lake City, Utah, will hit stores on May 6th and spin-off into a PBS special sometime June. The mark of a true businessman: repackaging the same gig three times in order to triple profits. Make those dollar bills, Josh!
According to Billboard, facts are still a little muddled, but “Awake Live” will double as the singer’s first single. Over the last few years, Josh Groban has quietly built up a following among both middle-aged women and critics. I was initially underwhelmed, but his 2007 Christmas CD Noel turned me into a fan.

For a study I was doing for ASU, I took an age demographic of Josh Groban's most ardent fans....the average age is, indeed, 40 BUT the age range was 11-82 with equal numbers in each age group, i.e. 1/4 under 25, 1/4 25-40, 1/4 were 40-55 and 1/4 over 55. So it's a misperception that fans are all middle aged women. About 15-20% of the most dedicated fans were men. I continually see this stated in the press that Groban's fans are middle-aged women. Though at one time the fan base may have started out with that group, any more you can see just about anyone at a Groban concert. Thanks!
You seem to be under the impression that Josh is his own business man in the music industry and that he makes all the decision and calls all the shots of what's taped, not taped, recorded, etc. There are so many things that artists actually have no choice in doing in this industry. So Josh may not be doing this just because he had a light-bulb idea to make more money. My guess is that the actual business people in his arena... (and note the the word business, because it is a business with the design and purpose of making money) ...my guess is that they have Josh under contract to do most of these things. It's part of the game you play as an artist. If you want to make any money at all as a musician, you do what the business people tell you. There's a river of BS in this industry and he has to paddle through it just like everyone else.
