Robert J. Ritchie, a.k.a. the artist known as Kid Rock, pleaded no contest to a single count of battery today, and received a $1000. fine along with one year’s probation for his role in a well-publicized brawl last October outside of an Atlanta waffle house. The rap-rocker must also complete six hours of anger management counseling and perform eighty hours of community service.
Kid Rock is of course no stranger to resolving a dispute by using his fists when necessary. In another incident that got quite a bit of press coverage, the “American badass” went toe to toe with Motley Crue drummer, and fellow Pamela Anderson ex-hubby Tommy Lee at an awards ceremony a few years back. Tommy Lee had no comment on today’s DeKalb County judgment. Sources close to both Lee and Ritchie also deny rumors of any rematch scheduled for broadcast on pay per view. Can you say "Wafflemania"?
The Atlanta incident took place last October 21 at around 5 a.m. as an argument which began inside the waffle house spilled out onto the parking lot. Kid Rock was arrested along with five members of his entourage, two of which were handed similar sentences in today’s court decision. Charges against the other three were dropped.
"I think my client is satisfied. He would have liked to have tried it. He came within a hairbreadth of going to trial,” Kid Rock’s attorney Darryl Cohen said in a statement issued after the decision.
Kid Rock’s Rock & Roll Jesus CD, released last fall, is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity, coming in at #5 on this week’s Billboard Top 200 Albums.
