My Morning Jacket’s Jim James Released From Hospital

My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James has been treated and released from the hospital, following a fall from the stage about thirty minutes into an MMJ show Tuesday night at the University of Iowa, according to Spokesman Tom Moore of University Hospitals.
James had been performing during the show, when he accidentally stepped off the stage as the lights darkened. The singer/guitarist fell some thirty feet off the stage, and sustained injuries to his head and torso. The concert was then stopped. Remaining dates on My Morning Jacket’s current American tour in support of the album Evil Urges have been postponed, including a performance in Chicago as part of a benefit for democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. My Morning Jacket are still scheduled to resume their concert schedule on Oct. 29 in Dublin, where they will kick off a two week European tour, following two to three weeks of doctor ordered recovery for James. Long a favorite in underground and indie-rock circles, My Morning Jacket are especially known for their live performances, where their progressive, improvisational style of southern rock has been favorably compared to bands ranging from the Allman Brothers to the Grateful Dead to Pink Floyd. Often described as a “jam band,” they are a particular favorite on the summer festival circuit, where they’ve become well known for their three hour plus sets at annual events like Coachella and Bonnaroo. On their latest album Evil Urges, My Morning Jacket have expanded their “jam band” credentials to focus on tighter songs, many of which feature a modern funk flavor. RELATED: my morning jacket
