You’re gonna have to pay if you want to see Ozzy Osbourne stateside this year. And you’re gonna have to be in Dallas, TX. It was revealed in a blog on Ozzfest.com yesterday that Ozzfest will not be free like it was last year and will not tour like it has every year since its inception. But the lineup may atone for these inconveniences.
This year, playing on the main stage with Ozzy will be: Serj Tankian, Metallica, Jonathan Davis, Cavalera Conspriracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica, Hellyeah and In This Moment. But fixing to be better than all that is the “special all-star tribute to slain Pantera guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott”. Just don’t expect Phil Anselmo to make a surprise appearance.
This year’s Ozzfest will also feature two supporting stages. The second stage will host Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The third stage, called the Texas stage will be “an homage to the “many great metal bands that come from Texas,” according to Sharon Osbourne. The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis are a sample of the bands set to perform on this locals only stage.
For those of you bummed that Ozzy will not be coming to your town this summer, Sharon offers this as explanation: “Ozzy just finished an 11-month world tour so I think he deserves a summer off”. Honestly, I’m too shocked the man’s still able to bumble through performances that I can’t even be bummed about it. Tickets for Ozzfest go on sale May 31 via the website.
