The Wrestler Takes Top Prize At Venice

By Katey Rich: 2008-09-06 18:49:21
The Wrestler Takes Top Prize At Venice It seemed like a movie too strange to be real-- Mickey Rourke as a wrestler, directed by Darren Aronofsky?-- but The Wrestler is not just real, but a film festival winner. Variety reports that Aronofsky's drama, which co-stars Marisa Tomei, took home the Golden Lion today, the highest prize at the festival. "I think the reason people are reacting to this film is that there is a great talent revealing his soul," Aronofsky said about the main character, a pro wrestler coming to terms with his advanced age while also staging a comeback. The Wrestler is sure to get a huge boost in buzz now, as it heads to the New York Film Festival later this month. I'll see it then, and be able to get a grip on this movie that still seems so strange.

I might be in this movie in the background. They filmed some of it in my home town, Dover, NJ. I actually sat right next to Mr. A. I nodded my head and he nodded back at me and then he walked away.

Strange fellow. As always, he was sporting his trademark directing beard while shooting.
