Bandidas Attack In 2

By Josh Tyler: 2006-04-24 00:00:00
Bandidas Attack In 2 If the release dates on IMDB are to be believed, Bandidas hits American theaters in just a couple of weeks… and if you've seen an advertisement for it, you're watching television channels that apparently I don't frequent. Maybe your TV is tuned to the NFL network or Bravo. I stay away from extremes and stick with the channels in between those two.

What the heck is Bandidas? It's an outlaw Western, with Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek as rootin tootin robbin sexy cowgirls! Right, I'm not sure where else to go with that, the sort of says it all.

Since Fox doesn't really seems interested in bothering to advertise it at all, I guess we'll have to do it for them. The first full trailer for Bandidas has been floating around on the web in a really terrible format for awhile. But now it's floating around on the web in high-def; and we've got it for you. To see it, click here to visit our Bandidas trailer page.

Anyone want to bet whether this will be yet another 2006 movie not screened for the press? I'm taking yes.

it's actually a pretty vapid action-comedy, and kinda insulting to americans, too. the only american good guys in the whole film is an ex-outlaw (sam sheppard in a cameo) and steve zahn's nerdy scientist. all the villains are ugly, greasy americans who goes around murdering people and making "ugly american" remarks about mexico. there's even some retarded attempt at insulting american foreign policy aka iraq/dubya. it's kind of stupid, actually, why they would inject so much anti-american sentiment into such a silly cartoonish movie. then again it was written by frogs, so there you go.

In reply to Sam's post: And how times has American media depicted Mexicans and/or Latinos in general as greasy and crimminal, etc?? Now you get offended?...now you know how it feels, only this time it's the exception...Latinos go through it every day of their lives. Having said that: LIGHTEN UP!!!!

    Peace!

In response to Sam and Susan and my own opinions, I just bought Bandidas on DVD and was quit impressed. What I seen was something that has more or less been shunned by Hollywood with maybe the exception of the Zorro movies and Maverick and that is the traditional family western. Granted all these movies may have some foul language and suggestive scenes (zahn's butt, like you can't see stuff like that on regular tv) but they are a far cry from Sharon Stone's Quick and the Dead which was gorey and unreal. Bandidas was a light hearted comedy and something I think the whole family can enjoy. As for the Mexican American issue, Zorro was a great movie hero but he was Mexican. Are we to throw out a character with such a hard foundation in our own culture because we don't believe him to be within our own racial standards. In Bandidas evil "Americans" were taking land from the Mexicans even using acts of murder. Didn't we do that in reality with the Indians whom we treated as savages much the way the Americans thought the Mexicans in Bandidas? Five years ago I didn't have an opinion one way or the other on Mexicans. However, I now live in an apartment complex with a whole family of Hispanics and I have found that they are really great people. They take care of each other. That is something I think we have sometimes forgotten how to do in the U.S. They are here, despite the fact that some actually don't want to be, because they are doing what we as Americans are doing and that is making a living for themselves and their family. At one time our apartments had an American couple that the father spent a lot of time strung out on drugs. He tried to run his girlfriend over with his pickup and even almost hit his own child. In fact, he would have hit the baby and an older "Mexican" lady from upstairs hadn't jumped on front of the truck and bravely flew into our apartment. I seen the whole thing. Don't knock people unless you know something about them. As for criticism of Bush, I'm a strong supporter of the prez and unless deaf did not catch a remark toward current gov. policy. Also, this being a site about movies I think racial and political issues should have no impact here unless a serious part of the movie being discussed. Sorry if I've stepped on toes but this is my opinion. Later!
