Check Out Indiana Jones' House!

By Katey Rich: 2008-01-20 16:02:05
Check Out Indiana Jones' House! Doesn’t it somehow seem wrong that Indiana Jones would have a website? Or, for that matter, promotional videos? It’s like seeing an online game where you could test-drive the DeLorean from Back to the Future, or getting sneak peeks behind the scenes of The Princess Bride before you’d ever seen it. Indy still seems like a relic of the 80s, despite the upcoming sequel, and it’s odd to not have him stuck in the past.

That said, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull naturally has a tricked-out official website which is hosting a new video that gives you a tour of the set for Indy’s home. There’s a link to it on the front page, or you can just click on the videos tab at the top. Production designer Guy Hendrix Dyasleads the tour, explaning how the house is pretty much the same place that Indy lived in in the first three films, but a little updated. The house boasts artifacts that have theoretically been collected in the years since we last saw him, as well as photographs from people and events in the first few films. So in case you miss Sean Connery, he’ll be showing up, albeit in black-and-white, photographic form.

The best part of the video comes at the end, when the camera zooms in on the hat and whip waiting in the closet. It pulls off exactly what a viral video is supposed to do, which is to make you ridiculously excited for that actual movie. Yes, it’s all well and good that Indy’s house pretty much looks like every college professor’s house I’ve ever seen, but what I’m really waiting for is to see that whip back in action.
