The first trailer for Confessions of a Shopaholic is here, and I have a question. Several questions actually. First, what’s this movie about again? It stars Isla Fisher as a woman with a shopping problem, I know that, but what it is really about? What’s the plot? What’s the story? Why is this interesting? I’ve watched the entire trailer twice now, and I have no idea.
Second, why is it that fashion obsessed women are such terrible dressers? Take Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City for instance. This is a woman who walks the streets of New York with a flower three times the size of her head, pinned to the shoulder of her dress. Yet she’s a fashion icon. Now we have Isla Fisher, playing some sort of shopaholic fashionista, wearing garish, gaudy outfits that look like the sort of thing you might see worn by a former hooker on her first legitimate job interview.
I don’t claim to know much about fashion, I stick with Levi’s jeans and t-shirts whenever possible . Sometimes my wife forces me to watch What Not to Wear with her, and that’s really the extent of my knowledge. So maybe in addition to looking ridiculous, this stuff is cutting edge fashion, and that’s why I’ve never seen a single real woman wearing anything even remotely like it. I’m fairly certain Stacey and Clinton would not approve of the outfits, but maybe they’d still like the trailer. Here it is:

It would take a man to say such things about this movie and Carrie Bradshaw! You need to watch Devil Wears Prada and pay attention to the part when Andy is in the room with the other fashion editors and laughs over the same looking belt. Meryl Streep turns to Anne Hathaway and gives her a long speech about people who don't understand fashion. Pay attention to it then you will understand way these ladies are styled this way. Fashion is a wearable art that defines a person and a time period.
Read the book to find out about the plot! You know nothing about the wonderful and crazy adventures of Becky(Isla Fisher) she encounters in that movie. Watch the entire movie before you give your comments. =.='
Obviously have not read any of the Shopoholic books.
She is a young woman who is addicted to shopping, and has gotten herself deep into debt because of it...
How is she going to get out of debt? Is she going to fix her shopping addiction?
Having read the book, I know how the story ends and I enjoyed every page of it, and I only hope the movie is just as good as the book!
You can go to any Barnes & Noble or Borders and buy any of Sophie Kinsella's books to help you answer some of your questions. You might get addicted. ;^)
thank you! i was going to say all those things but they have been summed up! :) i love the books, so dont make commemnts if you havent read any or watched the whole movie!
OMG! I was so excited to find out that my favorite book on earth is now a motion picture!!!!
BUT! What a disappointment!!! A New Yorker? I used to read this book in British accents in my head (T0T).
The book was so much more than just a girl spending too much money on clothes and shoes. Becky (the main girl) is a really smart and down-to-earth girl, so I really hope the movie will not ruin it all >_<
I also had some actor in my mind that will be perfect for Luke Brandon... but turned out it wasn't him >< GOSH, I'm so looking forward to this movie, but can't hide my disappointment at this poit...
You need to read the books to understand the movie! Don't just make a judgement on something you know nothing about! Trailers are to reel a target audience in not give the plot away!
