After telling you that Kevin Costner’s next movie was going to be Swing Votehere and letting you know Dennis Hopper had been cast here, we can now reveal what everyone really wants to know about any movie, who’s distributing? Well, Variety has let us know that it will be Touchstone Pictures, that’s right Disney itself will rejoin with the star of The Guardian.
The movie is being directed by Joshua Michael Stern who has a previous directing credit for an Ian McKellen movie that was theatrically released in Bulgaria. Hopefully with Touchstone on board, this one will at least sneak into 10 or 15 U.S. theaters. Costner indepdently produced the movie through his Treehouse Films company. According to IMDB.com, Treehouse has previously produced a few soft core thrillers and an animated television series so this is clearly a step up to the big time.
Swing Vote is not, alas, about guys voting on which of their hot neighborhood wives they will sleep with that night. Instead it’s one of those ridiculously premised political comedies like Welcome to Mooseport or, worse, Man of the Year where Costner plays a man whose single vote will decide the Presidential election. Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammar play the candidates and the rest of the cast includes Stanley Tucci, Nathan Lane, George Lopez, Judge Reinhold, and Mare Winningham. I saw Winningham in an elevator in Hawaii once, so I’ll have to content myself with that as watching this movie seems pretty unlikely.
