We’ve known for a while that Kristen Bell will be learning in When in Rome that crime doesn’t pay. She plays a woman who steals enchanted coins from a fountain in Rome, only to come home to New York finding all sorts of undesirable suitors beating down her door. Now we know just how grim the future can be when you’re relying on thievery for romance: Danny DeVito will be playing one of those lucky suitors.
Yes, The Hollywood Reporter tells us that DeVito will join Dax Shepard, Jon Heder and Josh Duhamel as one of many suitors who simply can’t get enough of the former Veronica Mars. Predictably, pretty boy Duhamel is the “right” suitor, but wouldn’t it be an amazing twist if DeVito were somehow the guy Bell winds up with?
In his film roles DeVito is usually either a straight-up creepazoid or a seemingly creepy dude with a heart of gold. Given that this is a Disney movie, you can pretty much guess which direction the character is headed. But still, DeVito has carved out a nice niche for himself, playing character roles like these, and it’s nice to see him around, even if it’s in a bland Disney comedy.
