There is pretty much no actress I have a bigger crush on than Tina Fey, so her presence in any movie is a guarantee that I will at least see it, if not run out on opening night and drag all my friends. So I’ve been pumped about Baby Mama for a while now, her first major movie role since Mean Girls and since she basically changed my life by creating 30 Rock.
But now that I’ve seen the trailer, I have to say, I have doubts. The movie co-stars Amy Poehler, who is wonderful, and the trailer features Sigourney Weaver and John Hodgman (a.k.a. PC from the PC vs. Mac commercials), both of whom can do anything as far as I’m concerned. But I’ve been ignoring the fact that the movie is directed by Michael McCullers, who has never directed a movie before and who wrote the screenplays for the second two Austin Powers movies, one of which was mediocre and one of which was unwatchable.
Watch it via the embedded video below, or head over to here and judge the trailer for yourself, but to me it seems like incredibly talented actors working with a script that’s way below their talents. When you’re used to hearing Tina Fey spout lines of brilliance weekly on television, it’s hard to settle for something that just looks OK.
