Go Behind The Scenes Of Mirrors

By Katey Rich: 2008-06-12 17:28:51
Go Behind The Scenes Of Mirrors When I first read about Kiefer Sutherland’s next movie, Mirrors, the description made it seem as if he was a mall security guard who somehow wound up facing off against criminals. Basically it sounded like Jack Bauer got a demotion and was stuck harassing shoplifters all day. But now Yahoo! Movies has a behind-the-scenes look at the movie, and while Kiefer still plays a gun-wielding badass, Mirrors also looks a lot more original than I’d first thought.

Turns out he is a security guard, but he’s also an ex-cop recovering from a tragic incident (yeah, yeah, but that’s not the original part. I’m getting to it!) And he’s hired to guard a Manhattan department store that was ravaged by a fire months earlier. There’s still an investigation into what went on during the fire, so Sutherland has to keep an eye on things—things like blackened mannequins, abandoned displays, and all kinds of creepy rooms.

And, of course, things start getting creepy. The video is deliberately vague at exactly what kind of craziness is going on, but Sutherland seems to give away the gambit toward the end of the video. ”The idea that a whole ’nother world could be living on a different plane, almost in reverse, and stuck and watching the other world, is a very scary idea.” Given that we also see a lot of shots of Kiefer looking suspiciously at and even shooting a big mirror, I have a feeling he sees more there than his reflection.

Mirrors comes out on August 15, and should be a nice Sutherland fix for 24 fans. It also might serve as a nice, late-summer supernatural thriller. This video definitely shows promise.
