We’ve tried to do our best as we’ve reported on the various pieces of Dark Knight follow up news to point out that all of it has been pretty unsubstantiated. Even conversations with current franchise stars hasn’t been official, and many of them will admit they hear more news from reporters in interviews than from the people behind the movie. So it comes as no surprise to me to read that one of the people behind the successful Batman reboot is calling B.S. on everything you’ve read about what’s coming after The Dark Knight.
MTV’s Splash Page has reported on an interview MTV conducted with scriptwriter David Goyer, where the writer says everything from Johnny Depp and Phillip Seymour Hoffman joining the cast to the recent reporting of director Christopher Nolan signing on is all B.S. ”ALL of it,” the writer emphasized.
Goyer says that he and Nolan haven’t even begun to really talk about the direction a third movie would go, let alone figure out characters involved or anything else. “Chris is pretty much a one movie at a time kind of guy,” So with his focus elsewhere, Batman hasn’t taken a step beyond the end credits of The Dark Knight, no matter what you’ve heard.
As for the rumors that have run rampant since The Dark Knight’s success? Goyer finds the fan speculation, ”amusing,” which gives me the impression he’s been keeping tabs on what’s been said. I won’t complain that he’s found enjoyment in the rumors. After all, he entertained us with his movie. The least we can do is give him a few chuckles in return.
