JLA Rumors Take A Sharp Turn

By Rafe Telsch: 2008-08-14 00:20:43
JLA Rumors Take A Sharp Turn It’s time for another ping-pong movement in the world of the Justice League of America. When we last left the team of super heroes, things were looking good for the JLA. Word was that Warner Brothers was contemplating making it part of existing super hero franchises instead of isolating it as previously planned. Rumors were the move could even see the bringing together of all of D.C. Comics’ independent character movies, like The Dark Knight, Superman Returns, and the unproduced Wonder Woman and Green Lantern movies.

As we join the action in this week’s adventure, we find that the previous word may not quite be true, and the film may be on indefinite hold - so much, that director George Miller isn’t even attached to the project anymore. Whaa?

Yup. Our friends over at IESB are reporting that the studio executives at Warner Brothers don’t want to mess with success - because The Dark Knight is such a cash cow, the studio doesn’t want to risk pissing off Christopher Nolan or Christian Bale, so trying to weave Nolan’s story into a JLA picture isn’t likely. You can’t blame them for that, if this is true. Of course, if you aren’t going to bring in the Batman, why bother with the significant less-successful Superman saga, or movies that haven’t even hit production yet.

The official story is that the JLA movie is on hold due to the still-looming possibility of a SAG strike. The unofficial (and unconfirmed) word is that Miller is no longer even involved with the movie, although the suggestion is Warner Brothers may be finding use for his talents elsewhere, like on that Green Lantern movie… a movie that has a lot of potential according to IESB’s script review.

So, for everyone (like me) who felt Warner Brothers was taking a bad path with the JLA film, this is very good news. For the rest of you… well, hopefully Marvel’s Avengers pic will prove to be more successful.
