Jon Favreau Loves You And All You Do For Iron Man

Jon Favreau Loves You And All You Do For Iron Man While I wasn’t initially all that excited about an Iron Man movie, (I’d, literally, never heard of the character previously), one thing that did raise my interest was that Jon Favreau would direct. In front of or behind the camera, the guy is one of my favorites. I think his space game kid’s movie, Zathura is an underappreciated gem. With Iron Man’s release just a few weeks away, Favreau is talking about what the Internet brings to the table on these super-hero pictures and why he hired a well known ex-substance abuser to play an alcoholic crime fighter.

Favreau spoke over on MovieHole and seems to be more on the love side of Hollywood’s love/hate relationship with Internet sites like this one. “I'm one of them, one of the community. They know that.”, Well, if we didn’t, I guess we do now. Welcome to our website. “I read everything. It's a great way to listen in at the big water cooler, and see what people are thinking. It's been a tremendous asset in my career, and it's been very helpful in bringing Iron Man to the big screen”. He doesn’t say how it was helpful, but its nice he’s throwing some of the credit around.

Favreau does give the Internet a hand in making mainstream audiences more aware of Iron Man as the movie was being made. The director said, “He's one of the big names in the Marvel Universe, and the Comic Con crowd and Internet crowd are very familiar with him, [Iron Man] never filtered out into the mainstream.” If you consider me one of the mainstream, that’s very true. “Over the past year, I've been dealing with the crowd that are familiar with the character – letting them know the character is in good hands – and in doing so, Iron Man has trickled into mainstream consciousness.” I think that’s very true. My excitement level has increased more by the excellent trailers released thus far but I think the constant “this is going to be so awesome” comments at this site and others is probably building a pretty good buzz which is being noticed outside Internet losers like ourselves.

The casting of well known former party animal Robert Downey, Jr. to play Tony Stark raised some eyebrows, and Favreau says he wasn’t the first name that he thought of when casting started. “I originally didn't think he was right”, Favreau noted, and I’m sure he wasn’t the only one. He was eventually won over, though. “I met with him though, and he really responded to playing this part. And Tony Stark was one of the few characters that Downey could actually play – age-wise, because a lot of the other characters are much younger. So, it did begin to occur to me that he was perfect. It also became evident that he was in great shape, great health... and many years had passed since his lower points... it became more and more possible that he might be Tony Stark”. I hope its possible, since rumor is he’s in one or two scenes during the movie. There are some other interesting comments about Downey and Favreau’s opinion about the Internet in the full interview, so check it out. For me, I’m really looking at this as an opening night or opening weekend type movie, which is rare for me.
