Matthew Fox Takes Assassination Vacation

By Katey Rich: 2008-06-30 19:45:03
Matthew Fox Takes Assassination Vacation As the blandest actor on Lost, and quite possibly on all of television, Matthew Fox doesn't strike me as a particularly strong superhero type. But apparently a Saturn Award for best TV actor gets you places, and Fox will be the latest actor to star in an adaptation of a minor graphic novel, Billy Smoke. Yeah, this one is so minor you haven't even heard of it-- it doesn't come out until next year.

Variety says the novel, written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Eric Kim, is about a hitman who decides to change his ways after a botched job nearly kills him. But he doesn't dedicate his life to raising puppies or feeding the homeless or anything-- this is a graphic novel, after all. He heads out to get rid of the world's assassins-- which, presumably, means being an assassin himself.

With this Wanted-esque plotline, Warner Bros. probably feel like they've struck gold. But am I wrong in my desire to see as little of Matthew Fox as possible? Can't we cast Locke in his own movie, or, better yet, Ben? I know they're going ahead with this and all, and maybe it will be good, but I feel like you need to have a better credit on your movie resume than Racer X before you get your own potential franchise.

"But am I wrong in my desire to see as little of Matthew Fox as possible?"

Sorry to break it to you Katey, but yes, you are wrong. You couldn't be more wrong. There's never enough Matthew Fox as it is, and your characterization of "bland" is highly a matter of opinion; one of which, I'm glad the Hollywood honchos that keep casting him in movies, don't share.

The man has given incredible performances since the Pilot. Performances of such caliber that movie studios are noticing him. To the chagrin of haters everywhere, and to the elation of his fans worldwide.

More Fox, I say, if at all possible, clad in body-hugging black leather again, please.

  1. Dan Says:

I think Matthew Fox would be great in such a role. I'm not a comic book fan. For me the key is the story and the execution. Unfortunately geeky-fandom based projects are so popular in Hollywood that it's becoming a formula.

And Katey Matthew Fox is hardly the blandest actor on Lost, let alone in all TV. There are tons of other actors who pass as actors without acting. I consider Matthew Fox as one of the best in TV.

  1. LaurieK Says:

Are you wrong in your desire to see as little of Matthew Fox as possible? Yes, very wrong. Or at least spectacularly misguided. Good luck with your affliction!

  1. Ryan Says:

Fox was excellent in "We are Marshall" and Vantage Point. He was also a very interesting Racer X. Hot as hell in the Ninja scene. Emile H as Speed and a spotty storyline ruined Speed Racer NOT Matthew Fox. I don't watch Lost but knew that Fox as Jack Shepherd sp? is the main character of the show. I've never even heard of the other people you mention so why would I want to watch a movie with them? He really looks like a superhero with his square jaw so I can definitely see him pulling this off.

  1. John Locke Says:

Ah, bitter Locke/Sawyer/whatever fans. How you amuse me.

His performance on LOST has been constantly wonderful without all the juvenile jumping-through-hoops-LOOK-how-spectacular-I-am blowing people up/shooting/killing stuff, except for when said performance was outstanding such as in last year's finale and several times over this year.

  1. Steve Says:

Yes, you are wrong in your desires. Matthew Fox is one of the best actors on Lost and his portrayal of Racer X was the best thing about Speed Racer. This role sounds perfect for him.

  1. Pixie Says:

No, neither Locke nor Ben can have their own movie because THEY'RE NOT REAL PEOPLE. Can't you tell the difference between a character and the actor who plays them? I get that you're not a fan of Jack but if you say that Matthew Fox's portrayal of him is bland, how come it evokes such passionate responses among fans who either adore him or hate him with all they have? I doubt he leaves anyone indifferent. This is BLAND?

If you don't want to see Matthew Fox in movies, there's one brilliant solution: don't buy that ticket! He was outstanding as Racer X and it's only fair his work is being recognized and rewarded.

  1. ZippyChippy Says:

Yes, I think you are wrong. I think he's a very fine actor and his excellent performance as Jack is the rock-solid foundation of the show. Without the firm grounding in human emotion that he provides, Lost would rapidly spin out of control faster than you can say "Jump the Shark." Thanks for asking!

  1. luti Says:

well i think Foxy will do an amazing job portraying a hitman in journey of redemption...

BTW- IMO Matthew Fox is the best actor on Lost and also he was great in WAM and Speed Racer :)
