Finally, Ellen Page has come to realize something I could have told her months ago. No, not that Juno was bad-- give it a rest, haters!-- but that the girl is overextending herself. Ever since Juno hit big last December, Page's name has been on practically every other deal signed in Hollywood. Now she's finally had to take a step back, and, as Variety reports, she's dropped out of Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell.
Damn shame. Hell was supposedly Raimi's return to his horror roots after making major bank with the Spider-Man trilogy. He's writing the movie with his brother Ivan, and pretty much all we know about it is that it involves a supernatural curse. I have no idea what Page would have done with the role I know nothing about, but her participation would guarantee attention to the movie that a horror project might not otherwise get.
Of all of Page's upcoming projects this one was a little below the radar for me-- I'm way more excited about the roller derby movie Whip It. But still, a world with more Ellen Page in it is a good world indeed, and it's a shame she couldn't make it work. Slow and steady wins the race, though, and Page will do well not to overexpose herself and inspire people to give her the same backlash they've foisted upon Diablo Cody.
