Pink isn’t a “Stupid Girl.” In fact, she’s showing off just how much she knows by dropping out of the race to play one of Rock music’s most influential female artists.
The singer was recently named on a list of potential actresses to play Janis Joplin in Penelope Spheeris’s upcoming biopic The Gospel According To Janis, however Pink has removed herself from consideration from what she calls a casting “circus” according to Digital Spy.
"They're trying to turn it into some circus pop contest - who's the 'it' girl who wants to play Janis? Janis was so much deeper than that.” said Pink, showing that she has a surprising understanding of both Joplin and the casting process. Maybe she should be the one directing this film instead of Spheeris, who was behind big screen adaptations of Wayne’s World, The Beverly Hillbillies, and The Little Rascal.
Interestingly, according to Spheeris, in a recent TeenHollywood.com interview, Pink was her first choice for the role. I guess she’ll have to turn now to some of the other names on the list, like Scarlett Johansson or, ironically, Lindsay Lohan, who is parodied in Pink’s “Stupid Girls” video.
