Pixar Remakes Charlie Chaplin

By Josh Tyler: 2007-06-10 23:34:04
Pixar Remakes Charlie Chaplin With their newest movie out at the end of this month, Pixar is starting to push the movies they’ll be doing post-rat. Our friends over at Dark Horizons have been flipping through Time Magazine and stumbled on some interesting descriptions of Pixar’s upcoming projects.

It looks like Pixar’s next three movies will be Wall-E in 2008, Up in 2009, and Toy Story 3 in 2010. Wall-E and Toy Story 3 we’ve heard of, but this is the first I’ve heard of Up.

DH says Up is a "coming-of-old-age' story which follows an elderly man befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of globe-hopping, ass-kicking adventures with villains and beasts whilst still eating dinner in the early afternoon.” I wonder if they’ll use some variation of the old man character from their chess playing short film Geri’s Game?

Meanwhile Wall-E is described as “space-set remake of a 1931 Charlie Chaplin film about a blind girl wooed by a tramp she mistakenly believes is a rich man.” I’ve seen the movie’s first teaser trailer, and I’ve read tons about the film, but this is the first I’ve ever heard of it having anything at all to do with Charlie Chaplin.

As for Toy Story 3, it’s still in the early planning stages. Toy Story 2 co-director Lee Unkrich is just starting work on the script.
