Terminator fans have been in a mini-uproar since the news broke yesterday that Anton Yelchin had been hired to play a teenage version of Kyle Reese opposite Christian Bale as a 30-year-old John Connor in Terminator 4. At issue is the age difference, which would make Reese more like Connor’s little brother than the best friends the franchise had previously set them up as.
Today though we’ve gotten some detailed information from one of our most reliable scoopers on just how this whole Reese/Connor thing is going to work. She’s sent us spot on stuff before, but of course since we have to keep her identity anonymous consider everything here as just rumor. But our scooper confirms that Reese won’t be some bit player in the movie. Instead, he “will be the central character in the films.” Our source compares it to Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in the Star Wars prequels, saying “Just like the Star Wars prequels when it was the relationship between Anakin and Obi Wan that drove the three films, that's the concept for the new Terminator films when its between the relationship of Kyle and John, who is really father and son but with the moral dilemma with John knowing what has to be done in order for him to be born.”
So maybe there’s a massive age difference between John Connor and Kyle Reese, but it sounds like Reese will still be a huge part of not only this movie, but any future Terminator movies.
Those movies by the way, our source says “will also address the terminators and their evolution including the terminators of the first three films.” And somewhat surprising, there may actually be direct connections between the movie and the recently aired Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series. Our source says, “they might connect the TV Series to the original three films as well but that depends if for one Fox decided to continue the series and if the people in charge want to have those plot lines cross over with this new trilogy.”
The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been great, and though there’s been no official decision on it yet, all indications are that the series will eventually get a second season. Now maybe there’s even more incentive for Fox to make that second season happen, if they can tie the TV series and the new movie together.

Actually John is older than Kyle when he is sent back to save his mother. So they are staying true to the story. They were friends but if you will remember Kyle looks up to John for guidance. He makes this very clear in T1. Also, more recently in the SCC on FOX, they have shown that Kyle was just a little kid when John is a teenager.

I'm not in charge but if I, a fan, has any say, it's yes, please continue the series, it's getting realy, really good. The best part is, like the movies, its character driven, not all effects and explosions, its about the people.
And as the story line progresses, I would like to see T3 basically removed from canon and future movies tied in with the show.

Don't forget Aaron that the old timeline established had judgement day happening on Aug 29, 1997 when John is 12 and Kyle is not even born yet. After the events of T2 Judgement day moved up to July/Aug 2004 which happened in T3. Since the SCC timeline removes John and Sarah from from that Timeline, T3 is no longer canon, Judgment day is then moved to April 21, 2011 when John is (technically) 26 but physically still 19. Judging by the way he looks, Kyle resse is (in 2008 in SCC) about 7, which means hell be about 10 when the new Judgement day happens. This means in terms of the newest timeline, Judment day will happen with John appearing about 9 years older then Kyle. This means sometime soon after 2027 Reese come sunder John command and we know he goes back to Sarah in 1984, meaning hed be about 26 when he went back, so the timing is off just a bit.
I hope they do not include the tv show into the new film series. Use the dates given in the original two terminators. John is born in 1984, T2 happens in 1995, Judgment day is on August 29, 1997, Reese is born in 2000, T4 occurs in 2019, Skynet is defeated and Reese is sent back in time in 2029.
Yeah kb1497, i have no idea how they're going to make that work. I heard rumor that the Rock was actually suppose to take over the actual role of "Arnie".... god what has the world come to? at least christian bale is amazing.
I agree with Aaron 100% because John has been with the resistence since the begginging of the was and Reese was born after in the ruins...then he when back in time....whern he is proboly in his 20's....so yes John is older

Actually John is older than Kyle when he is sent back to save his mother. So they are staying true to the story. They were friends but if you will remember Kyle looks up to John for guidance.
