After years in development hell, it looks like the Sex and the City movie is finally happening. Variety reports that HBO and New Line Cinema have worked out a deal to produce and distribute the movie. More importantly, they’ve managed to get all four women on board.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall are all supposed to be “set” to reprise their roles. Hopefully “set” means under contract, because after all the stutter starts and half-commitments this project has had over the years I wouldn’t trust them to be in the movie unless there’s an iron clad contract at work. Hopefully there is.
Variety’s sources say they all have fat deals, and they’re happy to be back together. So things are looking good if you’re a fan of watching 50-year-old women hang around talking about sex. Personally, I liked it better the first time when it was called ‘The Golden Girls’. I guess that makes Sarah Jessica Parker the new Bea Arthur and Kim Cattrall the new Estelle Getty.
