We’ve always known that Speed Racer was going to be a big movie. After all, with the Wachowski brothers at the helm and a cast that ranges from Lost’s Matthew Fox to Susan Sarandon to a monkey, how could it not be? What we didn’t know was exactly how big it would be; like IMAX big.
Warner Brothers and the IMAX Corporation announced today that plans are underway to remaster Speed Racer for IMAX release and that both standard theaters and IMAX would be receiving the movie in a simultaneous release on May 9th. “Speed Racer combines riveting action with stunning special effects, making it an ideal choice for IMAX’s format. We are delighted to release the film to IMAX theatres, where audiences can experience the next best thing to actually sitting in the driver’s seat during this high speed adventure.” stated Warner Brothers’ President of Domestic Distribution.
This isn’t the first time a Wachowski Brothers’ picture was adapted for IMAX screens. Both of The Matrix’s sequels were released in the large format, as was V for Vendetta, which the Brothers produced. I guess we all should have seen a Speed Racer IMAX experience coming.

Seriously, Why Bother spending money to pretend to sit in a drivers seat of a stupid race car, when you can Ride the Water Log, Real Roller Coaster, or some other Ride that would be 100 times more exhilarating and memorable as a life experience than sitting in a Imax theatre pretending to drive a race car through windy tracks. LOL ROFL
