Spiderwick Chronicles Brings In IMAX Bucks

By Ed Perkis: 2008-02-20 15:28:58
Spiderwick Chronicles Brings In IMAX Bucks I went to see The Spiderwick Chronicles this weekend. It wasn’t bad, but it was pretty underwhelming. My favorite parts had me saying things like “that guy looks like Nick Nolte….holy crap, it is Nick Nolte,” and “is that Andrew McCarthy?” The movie did ok, grossing about $27 million during the long holiday weekend and finishing behind Jumper. The film was also released in IMAX and the IMAX Corporation, for one, is pleased with how it did.

The film grossed about $2 million in IMAX theaters, which is around 7% of its overall box office. That doesn’t sound spectacular, but IMAX President Greg Foster says it’s pretty damn great. He noted, “this is the highest grossing February weekend in IMAX history, marking a solid start to our 2008 film slate." The movie was digitally re-mastered for IMAX and should blow your socks off, probably. See Freddy Highmore be an even bigger whiney malcontent at the IMAX near you.
