I've already posted my review of The Lucky Ones, but since it doesn't come out until September 26, its trailer is just hitting the Internet. The low-budget drama stars Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams and Michael Pena as three Iraq war soldiers home on leave who go on an unexpected road trip.
The trailer basically takes you through the motions of how these three strangers wind up on a trip together, before showing a handful of random scenes from the road-- Colee and T.K. escaping a tornado, Cheever's wife telling him she wants a divorce, even a random mid-movie visit to a church. Weirdly, the song used is Sarah MacLachlan's “I Will Remember You,” a song that's easily 10 years old and doesn't seem to have much to do with the movie. The trailer uses the tagline “ Sometimes losing the way home means finding yourself.” It's hard to figure out what that has to do with a melancholy song about memories.
I predicted in my review that The Lucky Ones would be met with the same apathy audiences have shown virtually every movie about the Iraq war so far, and this trailer doesn't do much to help the situation. The simple fact that it's taken this long for the trailer to come out, along with the weird Sarah MacLachlan song, indicate the promotional push just isn't there for this movie. Check out the trailer below and decide if this will be the one Iraq movie you actually want to see.
