Twilight Could Be Six Movies

By Josh Tyler: 2008-08-13 04:46:41
Twilight Could Be Six Movies The fourth and final book in the crazy popular series of Twilight vampire books has received a somewhat tepid reception from fans and the trailers for the movie, fan’s rock concert like reception at Comic Con notwithstanding, aren’t exactly blowing anyone’s Hot Topic miniskirt up. So Stephenie Meyer, author of the books and creator of the whole Twilight phenomenon might be jumping the gun a bit to start talking about making the last book, Breaking Dawn into a movie, but she’s talking anyway.

She thinks that should the franchise make it that far, the fourth book deserves to be made into more than one picture. She says it’s too long for one movie, and suggests, “The book is actually broken up into book one, book two and book three, and the end of book two is kind of the exact middle of the story… It really feels like the clearest place to stop the action, but I’m not a movie person, I don’t know. I just think it’s too long for one movie.”

So if you’re a Twilight fan, good news: If the first movie works we could be in for 6 or 7 of these movies, instead of just 1. If you’re not a Twilight fan, band news: we could be in for 5 or 6 of these movies, instead of just 1. But I doubt it. As much as I’d love for the rabidly devoted, Twilight faithful to have a movie franchise which is worth of their adoration, the trailers for the first one really don’t make it look like that’s going to happen. It’s Eragon all over again.

  1. d4nce Says:

I think it's more likely that there'll be New Moon, and Eclipse and Breaking Dawn will become one movie.
I mean nothing basically happened in either Eclipse or Breaking Dawn. It'd be pretty easy to cut out most of the fluff.

Actually better idea would be to put New Moon and Eclipse together, and then make Breaking Dawn, but only one movie.

A further better idea would be to just not do anymore movies at all. Here's hopin!

  1. Crystal Sundberg Says:

first of all i think that this book is going to be a great movie and anyone who thinks other wise is just plain dumb if you actually read the books they have a great base line for a amazing movie......so thats all i have to say.....

  1. Drusilla Says:

If Twilight movie doesn't flop, Breaking Dawn movie sure as heck would.

  1. meev. Says:

Love the reference to Eragon. That book series AND film made me rage; and then twilight showed up to take its place. The third book is coming out soon. I may have to aim my rage elsewhere yet again.

They're better off just either knocking off all this movie business, it's getting ridiculous and she's putting too much faith in her own writing. My stars.
Smeyer, it may look like a lot of pages to you, but there's a whole lotta nothin' going on in there.

  1. Angie L Says:

I really could not disagree with you more. The trailer for Twilight has been extremely well received. The huge uproar about the casting of Bella and Edward by the fans have turned now into screams of delight because of the intense visuals in the trailer. I really think you have underestimated the buying power of the fans of these books. I would not be surprised if they make all four of them into movies. I for one hope that is the case.

  1. Jessi Says:

Breaking Dawn read worse than fanfiction... what part of that book could possibly be made into a movie? Where Edward tears through Bella's stomach with his teeth to birth their mutant baby or maybe the completely pointless J. Jenks storyline? I hope HP6 kicks this movie's butt.

  1. phoenix Says:

Replying To Jessi: You know, that was a bit harsh. There are some people who haven't finished the book yet and you could have just ruined it. Spoiling is never nice.

Now, onto the article. Personally, I loved the book. I think that if you go into a final book like Breaking Dawn or something to that effect knowing what you know and not really thinking about what you want to happen, but more so what the characters may want, you'll get a better story out of it, and you'll like it more. You've got to remember, she had to tie this all up and then she ended up on a deadline.... That's difficult.

Either way, I would go for just 5 movies, but if they end up making 6 I don't think it would be too terrible, just a little long and drawn out. =S

  1. Natasha Says:

Hun, why don't you judge on the theatrical trailers instead of the teaser ones? Hmm?
    ""It’s Eragon all over again."

OH REALLY? Can't wait to prove you wrong this December. =)

  1. Devoted Fan Says:

Wow. I am guessing that most (not all) of you are not part of the Twilight Saga cult following, because if you were you would understand.

The movie is expected to be neck and neck with the 6th installment of Harry Potter and is also expecting the fandom to approach the movie like Titanic and see it repeatedly.

The trailers look fantastic. For once a movie adaptation of a book is trying to stay as true to the novel as possible with just a little more action given that the books are always in Bella's first person narrative. New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn all have room to become movies (though I do agree that Breaking Dawn could be one movie).

The following for this series is nothing if not fanatical and will support the series much like the Harry Potter fandom (even though those movies stretch far beyond the books now then they stay true to them). Regardless, Twilight the movie is going to do well and the series will undoubtedly continue on with 3 more movies.

I suggest if you don't like that idea, then don't go see it.

  1. Sophie Says:

While the movie trailer does look alright it doesn't scream 'Come see this film when it's released'. I'm still looking forward to the movie though. I like the ooks but don't love them. They're good to read but not in your face amazing.

As for Breaking Dawn being a movie, I'd have to almost agree with what Jessi said. The book wasn't great and there wasn't much in it that would make a good movie.

Love the Eragon reference. That movie was just bad. What a waste of €10.

  1. katy_cullen Says:

    WTF r' you thinking about!!?
I mean, the trailer was fantastic!! was...!!! I don't have words to say!!!!

if you've really SEEN it, well, you will be happy, and no!!!
it's not like eragon, eragon was... emm, well, was other movie, that's the point!. I know that twilight will be fine!!

    girls, DON'T WORRY!!!

  1. Ackley Says:

    Oh, well, that was pleasent.

It's Hollywood, they will probably change a whole lot and keep with three movies like most of the cast signed up for.

  1. urcoolcarrie Says:

I absolutely disagree. The twilight trailer is brilliant, and if you've read the books and you still think it won't do good, you are wacked out. it won't be eragon, and i wish that people would stop making assumptions before the movie even comes out. how do you know its going to be bad? you can start saying crap like that after the movie comes out, and even then you can only say that kind of stuff if it didn't follow the story's plot at all, and i highly doubt that. stephenie meyer has been involved a lot through this process, and even seen a rough draft of the movie, and she says that it looks awesome.

  1. twilighter Says:

typo: "If you’re not a Twilight fan, band news"...."bad news" not "band news"

  1. C Says:

Unless someone flippin' awesome adapts Breaking Dawn, it's going to be the most boring movie ever. Just sayin.

  1. ootw Says:

Well I have to say I think that Twilight series is a great series to be put into movies. I do believe that there is a fanbase out there for it already. I went to comic con with some friends who want to see the panel for this movie. Let me just say before this panel was Keanu Reeves, Mark Walberg, Chris Evans, and Hugh Jackman just to name a few and I have to tell you the screams were not nearly as loud as what Twilight got. We then stay around to see Mr. Guy Ritchies new movie panel and the room was empty to boot. So there were 6500 people there for Twilight. My conclusion is that Summit has a hit on their hands and there will be more movies made. Now as for Breaking Dawn getting into two that remains to be seen.

  1. Tanner Says:

Well I think all of the Twilight books rock including Breaking Dawn...which i thought was the best in the series! It could easily be made into a movie...I'm sure they made more violent ones...like Sweeney Todd or something. Also sure HP6 is going to be amazing movie but i dont think its going to kick Twilights butt entirely at least it better not!!!!

  1. Phung Lee Says:

Twilight is so good. And if all of the books can turn into movies is great. Breaking Dawn is amazing. People who said it's a bad fan fiction are obviously don't understand and connect with the characters. They should feel ashamed of considering ( or used to) themselves as twilighters.

The Twilight Saga is phenomenal. Although I'm a HP fan too, I'm more eager to watch Twilight the movie. I know it's going to be SO COOL.

  1. Emily Rose Says:

Hi guys! I'm a more recent fan of twilight (I stole it from my sister's room last week ^_^) I am going to be completely honest here - That book was so great, I had to read it from beginning to end over 7 times in 4 days. I'm starting over again today! lol

I can't wait to see this book I now love in action! The trailers have really made me hyped up >.<

Aww why can't September,October, and November go crawl under a rock until December 12th? T_T

  1. elizabeth S. Says:

i usto hate reading but than i my friend recomanded twilight and i fell in love with the entire series. when i here thet a movie was being made i almost screemed with enjoyment i cant wait for the movie to come out and i hopr that all of the book come out in a movie just like they did with harry potter. i am pretty sure that the movie wont flop bc harry potter didnt and even people who didnt read the book love the movies and i think that is how it is going to be with the twilight movie.......... so go ahead and make as many movies as u want of twilight. bc there r more people like me who r highly anticipating the movie and more to come!!!

  1. Kitty Says:

If there is a Breaking Dawn movie, damn would it hit over the top!!
I would love to compare the movies with the bookz.
& people who don't read can watch the moviez.
If they love the movie they will read the bookz.
You guyz HAVE to make the moviez!!!
    Twilight is the shiznit.

  1. shannon Says:

Okay so i am a devoted twilight fan i think it would be great if they made 4 movies: twilight, new moon, eclipse, and breaking dawn. Now some of you out there might get kinda mad from what im about to say: All the Harry Potter books are just one movie except for the upcoming deathly hallows and harry potter is way more complex than any of the twilight books. there is no way that breaking dawn can be made into more than one movie not enough stuff happened that was major. lots of it could be cut out. Why waste money to make more parts than necessary?

  1. Lola Says:

    PFFT Erragon?
EXUSE ME, DON'T DARE COMPARE IT WITH SUCH CRAP

cannot wait till you guys are proved wrong in December..
and as the other comments said- watch proper Trailers, not teaser ones.
    =)
    PEACE OUT

  1. Nicole Says:

    I have to disagree.
The trailer is excellent. On YouTube alone, the first teaser trailer has over 3.5 million views, not even counting how many different versions there are on MySpace TV, YouTube and the different teaser trailers.
They have countless fanmade videos, websites and even merchandise.
The books have been sold in over 30 countries.
And if what they say about the Harry Potter movie getting pushed back until Summer 2009 is true, even HP fans might want to catch Twilight.
This movie will be big. Probably won't be as big as HP because that came first, but it will be big.
    It's only getting bigger.

  1. Sky Says:

This movie is going to be awesome, and who ever wrote this article obviously has a very closed mind. And I really don't think it could be possible for anything to be worse than Eragon.

If they do continue the franchise there would only be 3 or 4 more movies, but no more than that...the plots for each book are very distinct.

P.s. This was a total crap article, in the future I would suggest not writing such a negative article on something with a fanbase as large as Twilight.

  1. Hope Says:

I have to disagree with this assessment of the trailer. I have viewed and enjoyed both trailers, and they are very evocative of the atmosphere the book describes as well as the characters. I like the actors, the music, the words on the screen. They leave me with a longing to see the movie…and I am no teenager.

I do have to agree with one of the other writers, above. These books have a lot of repetition in them which can easily be edited out to turn them into a movie. (A quick montage, anyone?)

I have not read the 4th book, so I cannot render an opinion on that one, but I would be inclined to believe it would be doable as a stand-alone movie.

  1. Andre Says:

Sorry I disagree. I didn't read Eragon, but I always knew this films won't be rentable, and I was right. I read Twilight, of course, and I think it will work so right! No only with the millions of people who will go because the books, also because the actors, director, expectation and all of this! Rob and Kris are both great actors, and Tay too! And Catherine is a fabulous director! I've watched thousand of photos and videos and I think it will work, and I think ninety percent of the people who know about the books&films think that.
But, anyway, on December we will see it!

  1. Sara Says:

Ok, with that ballet preview ,from the Mtv movie awards, Twilight was looking like a dud. But my sister and me found an extented version of the ballet scene, and we were floored. MTv totally butchered the scene. Because was i astonded by the acting, action, EDWARD . That i saw. Trust me this movie is going to be amazing. Eragon didn't have truly good acting, and the movie was horrible, it had no depth. Robert is Edward through and through. Kristen is the only Bella , i could ever picture. And omgosh! CAMMM is like so freakin awesome ,at being the bad vampire. Trust me, sequel is on the horizon.. But 2 movies for Breaking Dawn , can't be for sure. Don't judge the movie by some , 1 min trailer or butchered scene from mtv. Check out the extended version on the ballet scene and then make an opionion.. Oh and Don't Compare Catherine Hardwicke " Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown". to Stefen Fanhmeier who has only done Eragon, the rest he did visual effects.Hardwicke is really good with the emotional and crazy stuff. Oh and i can't stop bragging about the amazing acting.. You won't be disappointed. Not if you really care about Edward and Bella.

Oh and wtfh ERAGON.. I mean Seriously!... You need a head check.

  1. rosie Says:

I personally have to disagree slightly with you. I really do think the movie has some potential. I do think, though, that extending it to 6 movies is a tad much. I think 4 would be perfect. As for the spoiler Jessi mentioned, they could always find some sort of alternative to that. Looking at the movie with a negative attitude will really just spoil it. You have to be open minded and optimistic when you're going to see the movie. I'm very excited about the movie, even if I don't agree with the Bella, Edward, Rosalie, and Alice they choose.

  1. Anna Says:

All you Twilight fans who are posting on this site are saying that the movie will be awesome and not to judge or make assumptions if you haven't seen it.

I know you are being hopeful and showing the film support but aren't you guys doing the exact same thing - making assumptions.

  1. alicia Says:

I suspect that "Twilight" itself will do well at the box office -- well enough to get "New Moon" made -- but I think it will peter out after that. It's not going to flop or turn into the next HP juggernaut; it will do all right because its fanbase will support it strongly, but I doubt there's going to be real crossover appeal to the general public that carries forward to sequels, as there was with HP.

  1. DarthMuppet Says:

Jesus! This is worse than the reaction I got when I expressed my opinion that "Sex and the City" sucked around several of my female friends.

You are a brave man indeed Josh Tyler! From what little experience(Thank Christ!) I've had with them, fans of the "Twilight" series tend to live up to the origin of the word "fan".

And just FYI girls, I never once anywhere in my post expressed anything even remotely negative about the books. So, when you flame me... at least get that part right.

  1. Marie (a \"Twilightmom\") Says:

"Twilight" the movie will be GREAT! This is not an ordinary love story. The movie will not be your ordinary, run-of-the mill romance. There is a lot of action in this movie. Vampires are cool! They're strong, they move fast, they drink blood. Because of the nomatic (wild and evil)vampires, there will be some gore. The leading male vampire character Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson) is from a refined vampire family headed by Carlisle Cullen (played by Peter Facinelli). The Cullen family is refined because they do not drink human blood - they drink animal blood. Emmett Cullen (played by Kellen Lutz) loves his grizzly bears. This movie has something for everyone. And, remember, Stephenie Meyer herself (author of the "Twilight Saga" book series) was on set and has given the movie and its' cast and crew her approval. Case closed!

  1. ArtChick Says:

I'm already planning how many times I can see Twilight on it's opening weekend – and I'm not even a teenager. The books are awesome and once the movie comes out, the saga will continue to find new fans as marketing campaign begins. And if Summit is smart, when the DVD comes out they will include extras, outtakes, etc., just like the author did on her website.

I do think that New Moon and Eclipse could be combined into one movie (2 hrs?) and that Breaking Dawn could be one movie. Even though I liked BD, there are elements that could be narrowed or eliminated all together. As long as Stephenie Meyer continues to be consulted on these projects the basics of the story can make a transition to the big screen smoothly.

  1. lura Says:

Although Iam excited for the release of the film, and hopefully the following sequels I have my reservations as to whether my expectations will be lived up to.My praise is for the fantastic literary skills of the author Stephanie Meyer, and hence my only concern for the film is the sheer brilliance of her writing. The book focusses on Bella's and to some extent, Edwards thoughts, it is through these thought proceses that the true meaning of their relationship is viewed: The deep intensity with wich each adore one another, the innate and gruelling conflicts Edward experiences, through his need to be away from and with Bella in the same instance. His struggle to decide betweeen his animalistic desire, and his human desire,The reactions between the two characters and the events that surround them seem almost needless and fail in comparrison to the thoughts they both experience. To those who have not read the book, the film will undoubtedly be a feast for the eyes, visually exciting, but to those of us who adore the series, the film will lack the esssence that the book is, the inner workings of Bella's and Edwards minds, the simple details that amount to explain the conclusion. In short, the film will, and can only depict the physical events, neglecting the most important factor from the books..the fact of Bella and Edwards love.

  1. Ashley Says:

I would love if they made the books into movies heres hopeing they do

  1. Ashley Nacole Says:

I really hope they produce more after twilight, I loved eclipse and breaking dawn. It is a great story line and would be an amazing movie, if u read the novels they make you feel so many emotions and I'm anxious to see the books brought to life!

  1. pinkpapayabec Says:

I find it difficult to understand the negativity that seems to worm it's way into the review of books/movies. Why MUST there be something wrong with the creative art of an author or movie producer? We are NOT all going to like the same movies or the same books or even the same genre that is for sure.
However, that all said, this author...her series....it was FABULOUS! She creatively webbed each character into a story that not only captivated me, but had me flippin pages throughout the weekend (yes, the story HAD to be read in one sitting) :) I truly LOVED it. Being a vampire story-line fan, it was right up my alley. Even without this fanged fixation that I have, I would have still loved the story.
Now that I've read each book, I anxiously await the movie(s). **Oh, I hope there will be more than one!) And as Lura commented above....Yes, the movie(s) will most likely be unable to truly capture the depth of emotion, love, turmoil and desperation of the characters (like the book can) but then if you've read the book, you can fill in between the lines!
**sigh** Movies can NEVER compare with the book anyway!
Here's to an extremely well written story and hoping for a expertly directed and filmed movie adaptation! (I personally think the trailers look pretty dang good!)

  1. Zazzie Says:

I can't imagine BD being made into three movies... Two, maybe. But the Twilight series doesn't really have enough action, does it? There's a lot of character development and emotion, but as for forward action, I can't imagine drawing everything out that much (there're about three battles in the whole series, I believe?).
Book two of BD does have a rather "WTF just happened?" (in a good way, I think) ending though, and that'd be priceless for a movie ending xD If a movie could convey it...

  1. Dominique Says:

I'm a huge fan of the saga esp. Twilight.. I just hate the fact that people are so excited with the movie up to the extent that they initially look for spoilers online. It's like, you already know what will happen; the scenes and the dialogues are already exposed upon the movie release. With re. to the sequel, it would be better if the 3 books will be in just 1 movie, since new moon and eclipse don't have much importance

  1. d4nce Says:

I was Just Jokeing I really would love if they made more movies heres hopeing

  1. CCUTY Says:

The movie will be awesome I can't wait I am probably going to the midnight primere

  1. mcrjnr303 Says:

i've read all of the books and CAN'T wait to c the movie and i hope they hav ore than one movie=]

  1. kayy Says:

i love these books and i think it would be great to see all of them portrayed on film! unfortunately the trailors for twilight dont seem as good as the ones for harry potter and lord of the rings -which people are comparing it to, though stephanie meyers books are clearrly not the same and much more awesome- even though the books are absolutely amazing i dont know if the movies will carry out all the way to breaking dawn...I cant wait to see twilight. If it gets good reviews they probably will make the rest of the movies! So support Twilight! Go see it. NOV 21! :)
