We are slowly turning into the Twilight headquarters on the Net. We told you back in December that there was going to be a film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s popular teen novel about high school vampires. Then we brought you the first trailer and the the first completed scene. So we are right in the center of all things involving young vampires and their non-vampirish girlfriends. Now, we’ve branched out into brining you vague rumors about the next vampire adaptation.
According to Shock Till You Drop, the company that is releasing Twilight, Summit Entertainment, has also optioned Meyer’s sequel, New Moon, and is planning to release the follow-up December 2009, one year after Twilight. Actually, STYD notes as its source, “word has leaked onto the Internet.” It’s not made clear who leaked it first, or where the leaked information came from.
Despite the murky origins, this makes perfect sense. The teen novels are best sellers and there is clearly a fan base for this Romeo and Juliet knockoff. It would be silly for Summit not to at least get the next film ready. Catherine Hardwicke, who directed Twilight, has not been confirmed for the sequel. In fact, the sequel hasn’t been confirmed. Don’t worry, though, Twilighters, things are looking good.
