It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, in particular at the movies. Even though this weekend was
Thanksgiving, it was a Christmas holiday movie that shone. Due to the weekend's heavy competition and the
movie's slim marketing, This Christmas wasn't expected to be much more than a blip on the radar. Instead
it was the second highest grossing film, bringing in $18 million from Friday to Sunday and $27 million over the
five day Thanksgiving weekend.
The number one movie was Disney's Enchanted which brought in $35 million for the weekend and $50
million over Thanksgiving. The other three new releases, Hitman, August Rush and The Mist
were scattered through the rest of the top ten with varying degrees of disappointment.
Hitman, easily the worst new movie released, came in at number four, just beating out Bee
Movie which continues to hold on very well with $112 million earned to date. August Rush and The
Mist fell in at numbers seven and nine respectively with less than $10 million each over the three day
weekend.
No Country for Old Men expanded from around 100 screens to over 850 and more than doubled what it
made last weekend. However, thanks to the influx of new films it still dropped to tenth place, just barely
beating Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium which slipped out of the top ten after only one week in release.

I have this sneaking suspicion that THIS CHRISTMAS only made as much money as it did, simply because it had the word "christmas" in the title. No one knew what it was, but they walked up to the theater, saw "christmas", and were in the holiday mood, and bought a ticket.
