When most people are asked what decade they would have liked to grow up in, they invariably say the 1960s. Then they espouse the virtues of peace, love, harmony, and all that other shit. Well, let me tell you something: those wannabe Abbie Hoffmans are idiots. The 1970s were far and away the grooviest ten years since the roarin’ twenties. The “me decade” was characterized by wild excesses. I picture unkempt sideburns(which I have), bushy afros (which I don’t have), and people with at least one of the aforementioned features doing coke lines off urinals with Andy Warhol at Studio 54. If that’s not your definition of a good time, then maybe you’d be better suited with Ike and the 1950s.
Sadly 1979 has long passed, leaving gas rationing fans and feminists out of luck, until now. ABC has announced crew members of Will Ferrell’s new comedy, Semi-Pro, are looking for paid extras to recreate the seventies. That’s right Atari 2600 fans, you can get paid to once again wear bell bottoms and act like Greg Brady.
Shooting will take place in Detroit and Flint, Michigan. If you’re interested in auditioning, send your name, a recent picture, mailing address, e-mail address, phone number, date of birth, height, weight and clothes size to:
Wendy Washbrook/Extras Casting, "Semi-Pro," c/o L.A. Center Studios, 1201 W. 5th St., Suite M310, Los Angeles, Calif. 90017
The Will Ferrell vehicle tells the story of Jackie Moon, a semi-pro basketball player who attempts to inspire his team. It also stars Woody Harrelson(Kingpin) and Outkast lead singer Andre Benjamin. No word yet on how much of the film’s comedy will derive from Ferrell’s seemingly endless arsenal of obscure references.
