Set against the action-packed world of Mixed Martial Arts, Never Back Down is the story of Jake Tyler, a tough kid who leads with his fists, and, often, with his heart. Jake Tyler, played by Sean Faris, is the new kid in town with a troubled past. He has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family who has relocated to support his younger brother’s shot at a professional tennis career. Jake was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler.
Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja (Amber Heard) Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald (Cam Gigandet). While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA). He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua, played by Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, In America).
It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting, but rather an art form he wants to master. Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is.

when i saw the commercial i was like wow. im 15 years old im the only one in my school who likes mma i talk about it all the time .mma is like a passion to me and that movie represents that
lame, another attempt by hollywood to butcher up stuff. First they have to put dancing and bboying into the media. Now they are trying to put mma into the media. Now theres gonna be tons of kids that are going to want to copy the stuff in the movie and want to do mma.
first of all were all gonna say it looks dumb so if it sucks we can say we told u so bt it dont look that bad and who cares if this makes other people what 2 do mma or bjj or kb or watever the true fighters will show them wats up bt ill go c the movie we all we just wont admit
I think it will be a great movie. If it is anything like the movie "no retreat no surrender" it will be good. I think this movie will encourage people to stand up for themselves.
Mixed Martial Arts is not a sport that shoud be put in a high school setting. This isn't "You got served." I like the idea of MMA finally getting recognition, but now hollywood is, yes, going to butcher it I believe. This movie is going to be completely unrealistic. High school parties and underground sanctioned mma events. Give me a break.
I think it might be a good show. Its good to see, action in teen films. Sports for the guys and the eye candy for the girls. And for people like me who likes those sorts of movies it should be good.
I know that one of the songs is "To be Loved" by Papa Roach. Alos, I really want to see this movie. It seems great and especially since they include mma.
If there was a director worth his weight to actually make a serious martial arts film. Complete with a story that was actually interesting I might actually give this movie a look.
Bottom line, any story that has slow motion fight sequences is horrible. Compiled by a horrible soundtrack, and every 80's movie gimmick to date. When somebody sends forearms into your face you're going to have bruises all over your face, and also your face is going to hurt, you're not going to want to face the guy who made your face look like hamburger.
Also take the setting out of highschool. I'd rather have a rival MMA team with each of their best representing the fight. Not the horrible movie this will turn out to be. I thought Cry Wolf was bad but that will probably be Oscar worthy compared to this garbage.
I'm fifteen and been training MMA for a year now, and its nice to know that i got into MMA BEFORE this movie, because we all know how many 13-20 year old guys are gonna see this and want to be an MMA fighters after seeing this movie...
As a girl of course the movie was amazing. Sexy guys kicking each others asses… A MAZING. The characters seemed too old though, it would have been more realistic if they were in college and his brother was in high school. The fighting was incredible, for some one who has no clue what MMA is it showed an accurate picture.
It was probably one of my favorite movies this year so far. And for everyone comparing it to karate kid…. Get over it! times are changing, things are being remade alllll the time, this has just been modernized and its completely amazing.

Ok let me one to say that this movie is a great movie for anyone into the sport or knows what it means to never back down. For people out there saying great, now everyone is gonna want to try mma. My answer to that is why not let em'? Who are you to stop someone from trying. This depicks great personal acheivement over trials and tribulations and is a good movie for all ages.
It was an awesome movie and pumped me up. For all those people saying people are going to go out there and do mma, to repeat what Johnny said, let them do it, clearly you guys are either fighters who suck cause your worried everyone is going to beat you or your non fighters who THINK you know everything about the sport.
I saw the movie...and absolutely loved it. I am going to try out MMA because the movie helped give me the push and shove to go do it...and because I have been thinking of doing some fighting training besides boxing.
As for the people who say it is a bad movie and doesn't even compare to the older ones, well what the hell...I don't get it...It was a hella good movie, if you don't like it, then don't see it again....
Oh and Brandon, Thanks dude, I was looking for almost exactly what you posted.
Thanks bro
Hey Brandon i was wondering; in the songs you have listed under the one: Rock Star by lil' Wayne. I couldn't find it anywhere. Where you referring to the song party like a rockstar (During the Hummer Part.) and if anyone else knows help would be appreciated. Thanks
o and the movie was the greatest actually turned couple of my friends to MMA and they love it. So people who say it sucks you dont understand the meaning on how people fight for the wrong reasons and everyone has their fight to stop the fighting.
its headstrong by trapt. and dave that just shows your not a real fighter. i dont take easy fights. ive been messed up pretty bad before but i didnt act like a bitch and hide. i trained my ass off and then i took my rematch and fucked him up. thats what beeing a real mma fighter is all about.
