In the comedy "The Love Guru," Pitka (Mike Myers in his first original character since Austin Powers) is an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. He moves back to the U.S. to seek fame and fortune in the world of self-help and spirituality. His unorthodox methods are put to the test when he must settle a rift between Toronto Maple Leafs star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) and his estranged wife. After the split, Roanoke's wife starts dating L.A. Kings star Jacques Grande (Justin Timberlake) out of revenge, sending her husband into a major professional skid - to the horror of the teams' owner Jane Bullard (Jessica Alba) and Coach Cherkov (Verne Troyer). Pitka must return the couple to marital nirvana and get Roanoke back on his game so the team can break the 40-year-old "Bullard Curse" and win the Stanley Cup.

Mike Myers has such a thing for Deepak Chopra, that he’s made an entire movie out of him. The former Austin Powers has recently been spotted spending a lot of time fawning over the self-help kingpin, and it doesn’t seem to be for research. To fall in love with Deepak and then make a guru-driven film seems like an awfully big coincidence. Of course even without his dedication to all things Chopra, this sounds like a dream project for Mike, since it combines his love of ridiculous, prosthetic-driven characters with his love of hockey. Actually, forget Chopra. There’s a pretty good chance the whole thing was concocted as an excuse for Myers to hang around a hockey rink.

He’s put together a pretty high-profile cast for The Love Guru, it’s easy when you’re one of Hollywood’s most sought after, yet rarely seen commodities. Sorry Dana Carvey, I’m not talking about you. Mike Myers has pull, and his successes easily overshadow his occasional misses. Nobody’s talking about Cat in the Hat.

For The Love Guru, Jessica Alba plays the female lead. Hopefully this doesn’t mean we’ll have to watch Myers crawl all over her clad only in his tighty-whities. It was bad enough when he solid Tia Carrere with his Haynes elastic-band underpants, and that was when he was younger. Now as a more mature gentleman, that bit could only come off as creepy.

I’m sure however he’ll show restraint. He doesn’t need to maul Alba, that’s probably why he’s hired Justin Timberlake to play second banana. It helps that they’ve worked before… sorf of. No, MM hasn’t been helping JT bring sexy back. Timberlake did a voice in the wholly awful third Shrek movie. He was the annoying kid king, but don’t hold that against him. Timberlake has proven he can be incredibly funny in small doses. His guest hosting stints on SNL have been consistently hilarious. While I doubt “Dick in a Box” will be funny stretched out over 90 minutes, be confident that Myers will give him more to do that that. Maybe he’ll reprise his cup-of-soup bit.

Thats funny, I kind of wanted to see it, but its kind of a miss that its sounds like mostly a freaking sports movie.
Let me guess, in the end they win the big game.
