Hubble Completes 100,000th Orbit

I remember being in school and all the talk about Hubble was that it was kind of …lame. It always felt like the project was being derided by critics far more than it got praise. But then Hubble would produce some spectacular photos of the universe. No matter how good of a digital camera you may have, there’s just no way you can compare with Hubble.
The camera to end all cameras has completed its 100,000th orbit around our little planet. To celebrate, scientists pointed Hubble to NGC 2074. That’s a star birthplace 170,000 light years away near the Tarantula Nebula. OK, you probably didn’t follow all of that. And if you did, congrats…you’re either in high school or a cosmos geek. No matter your background though, the image is breathtaking. If you can check out the high resolution version it’s even better than the one to the right.
