Smallville fans were likely to be shaken up by the news that Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor on the drama series is leaving. Now it looks like another main character from the show could be heading out the door. Rumor has it that Allison Mack, who plays Chloe is considering walking away from Smallville as well.
TV Guide’s Ausiello reported the rumor, saying “This marks quite a turnaround from a few months ago, when I deemed Mack a lock to come back next season. And I wasn't the only one. Although a deal wasn't signed at the time, Smallville insiders tell me that all indications were that the actress was on board for Season 8.”
Ausiello’s source thinks Allison’s “camp” is using Rosenbaum’s departure from the show as leverage in the negotiations with Warner Brothers. Between Rosenbaum leaving and Kristin Kreuk’s (who plays Lana) decision to only appear in a handful of episodes in the upcoming season, the show really can’t afford to lose Mack.
I don’t really watch Smallville but my husband’s a fan so I’ve caught a few episodes here and there throughout the series’ run. As beautiful as Kreuk is, her scenes always bored me to tears and felt like mini-soap operas so I’m thinking less Lana could be a good thing for the show (fans of Smallville feel free to jump in and disagree with me here if I’m way off) but I’ve always considered Lex and Chloe to be interesting and fairly crucial characters. Losing Lex is already going to leave a pretty big hole in the show but losing Chloe on top of that would probably be a disaster, right?

I guarantee that if chloea gos there will be a suden decrease in viewers. Kristen i love her and shes a fellow canadian and wonderful actress but i couldnt stand Lana to be a full time character i think her doing bits and pieces a good thing. i also think that if they kill chloe off there will be even worse of an out come as if they did not kill her off. all in all with the 2 characters leaving i would have to say keep her on shes my favorite. smallville will crash and die if they take her off. if they take her off they might as well just shut the whole thing down. ( ilove you allison big fan.)
THEY NEED ALLISON MACK! Smallville cannot afford to lose Allison at this time. Chloe and Lex (and Clark to an extent) are basically the two characters usually worth watching-- they make Clark interesting and they complement Clark in different ways. Lana is a bore-- she needs to go. She's just used as a love interest with no arc of her own, and always dragging Clark and the show down. The show executives, the network or whoever is in charge really need to do everything in their power to give Allison whatver she wants-- they need Allison, they need Chloe! Otherwise, I know most people won't watch. I know I won't watch if she goes. I'm not interested in a L&C show. No thankyou. Chloe and Clark make the show!
I agree if Allison Leaves this show is doomed!
She is the only other favorite character aside from Clark left if she goes the ratings will go down and I agree that she deserves the money and recognition as the leading lady she had been for a long time on the show and the promotion that the lesser characters have had. I think WB should pay her what she is worth or not only they will lose the show they will lose the faith of a lot of people that wouldnt trust any of their future work knowing that at the end they are willing to disapoint them if the money is a problem.
I'm tired of Chloe saving the day. Is the show about young Superman or not? Last night's episode was typical. Clark gets overtaken by kryptonite and Chloe comes running in and rescues him. You'll be flooded by Chloe fans who want Clark and Chloe to have a romance, that's typical, but if they pay more to keep Chloe, they'll have even less money for special effects. That's just a fact. Let's move on to the future and not stick with a non-canon character from the past.
First, Chloe doesn't save the day any more than other characters on shows like this (who aren't the main hero) save the day. Even in the comics, other characters besides Superman are allowed to play crucial roles in the day-saving.
Secondly, special effects don't mean much if you don't have a good story, and good characters to play them.
And, finally, Chloe Sullivan is a canon character. She might not be a canon character in the comics, but we aren't reading the comics. We are watching SMALLVILLE, and Chloe Sullivan has been a canon character on this show have been watching for the past seven years. I never got the argument that, because Chloe isn't in the comics currently, her character somehow doesn't matter. Most shows start out with characters that have never been seen in a comic book. Does that mean those characters don't matter, either?
And here I thought the show was about a young Clark Kent...
It doesn't really matter who the supporting characters are if additional supporting characters are brought in and are interesting, like Oliver Queen.
Being that it will be Smallville's last season anyway, the show can finally progress with developing the main character (who would have figured?!). Ultimately, Clark is the only essential character on Smallville, no matter how enjoyable or popular other characters are. Smallville is about his growth, learning how to deal with his developing powers, and the path he takes to become Superman.
Chloe Sullivan is part of Smallville's canon. The show needs Chloe Sullivan. Who is Clark going to go for help? "Lois"? Please. This "Lois" is an uneducated bimbo who got into the Daily Planet on her looks and slept with her boss to seal the deal. She's an insult to the name Lois Lane. Jimmy? Mr. Jimmy "Lex is working with the Egyptians" Bond? Clark barely knows/tolerates him.
Stick a fork in the show because with AM/Chloe, this show is done.
This year they had to use the FX sparingly because of budget woes and it hurts the show or any sci-fi show. They can't afford to pay her more money without robbing the budget even more. Chloe had a good run, but it's time for her to move on. Season 8 is the last season and it should be about working on the future, not the past. If you're leaving because of Chloe, then I guess we'll lose people who watched only for Lionel, Lex and Lana too. But for me, as long as the future Superman is there. I'm there.
I think Allison Mack should not leave the show because she has come so far in the show. Chloe has done more work than Lana and Lois those two only work to look pretty so chloe needs to come back she cares about clark and the frienship they have...
I think that Lex not being used enough in the past 5 seasons, him leaving will leave a huge hole in the show that could be there. Allison, i love to watch, and they should bring her back, if they don't I don't know if it will be the same.. Kristin should have been gone a long time ago, same old story, I really don't want to watch more if it's Clark and Lana..
On another note, shouldn't Clark be back in college by now?
Lex Luthor was by far the most fascinating and appealing character in that show; and Chloe was the second. There was also some appeal to Lionel Luthor and Martha Kent, but the rest of the cast was never that interesting -- not Lana, not Clark, and certainly not Lois. (blech) Other characters that came and went -- like Clark's father John-Bo, his friend Pete, and Lana's first boyfriend -- none of them were very interesting or memorable.
Lex Luthor made that show, and the producers and directors just never wanted to admit that, and to give Michael Rosenbaum the more central role that he deserved. It seems like a similar thing happened in downplaying the eccentric, spunky and vivacious Chloe, in favor of the bland and forgettable Lana, and the vacuous and annoying Lois.
As for Clark himself, he managed to be a soggy wuss despite all his superpowers; which is some kind of extraordinary feat, I guess. But I would much rather watch a show about Lex Luthor without Clark, than a show about Clark without Lex.
I would say that the producers and directors were already too trapped in the comics' canon, and afraid to make truly radical changes to the storyline. They slavishly followed the canon rule that said that Lex must turn out to be evil, etc., blah, blah. They could have done something truly revolutionary with that show. But no, they let it be dictated by the immature confines of a comic book. Too bad.
Admittedly i haven't watch Smallville on any kind of regular basis for two seasons. I've watched an episode here and there if it looks promising. Losing Rosenbaum pretty much guarantees that I won't even be looking in the shows direction. MR was/is probably second only to Glover in the acting department. Really the entire cast are capable actors/actresses. Welling and Kreuk have come a long way in their craft over the past seven years. But really it's the Luthors that seem to steal scenes at will.
The problem with the show is the writing. Since Jeph Loeb left the show, Smallville has lost focus. Writing was never the show's strength. But it was still enjoyable nontheless. A big reason was the cast. Time to put the show out to pasture. Clark is now a full blown adult. Time for him to leave the farm and become Superman.
