No! How can my favorite New Yorkers be leaving New York? And seriously, how could anyone choose New Jersey over New York? It’s complete madness this week on How I Met Your Mother.
Ted’s been spending most of his life on the train between New York and New Jersey, where Stella lives. It’s only until they get married, though, so he can put up with it for a while. But still, it’s difficult because he never gets to spend time with his friends or her. He even missed the celebration for Robin’s new national anchor job and the night when Barney dressed as a woman in order to get a lesbian.
So finally he tells Stella it’s like he’s spending his entire life on a train and she invites the gang over to go out and explore New Jersey. This doesn’t sound like too much of a great night to the gang, who all hate the Garden State. None of them more than Ted, though, who even owns and I hate NJ tee shirt. But they agree because it means so much to Ted.
On Robin’s first night at her new job, the gang goes over to Stella’s. But she can’t find a sitter so they end up hanging out in the best bar in the state (the one in her basement) where they play scrabble and Barney makes a really lame joke about fish. No, really it was lame. It was so bad, in fact, that no one would fist bump him and he swore to not put his fist down until it got the bump it deserved. So while he’s trying to convince Lily to help him so he can put his arm down, Ted and Marshall take a trip to Price Co., where everything is just Marshall’s size and all the chairs have cup holders.
This doesn’t really entice Ted but Marshall seems to be in heaven. When they return to Stella’s, it slips out that Ted can get a membership at Price Co. when he moves to NJ. Say huh? No way is Ted ever going to leave NY for NJ. There’s the Empire State Building, the Met, Broadway, etc. Then comes the war in which Stella and Ted name different assets of each state. The thing that finally ends the discussion: Marshall’s rampage about how NY doorways are too small and he likes to sleep but it’s so noisy. Then comes the death stare from the born and raised Lily so Marshall was really just kidding. He looovves New York. Ted does, too, but he tells Stella they can live in Brooklyn which is much more family friendly. Doesn’t work for Stella, though, who storms out.
Meanwhile, Robin shows up after finding out that the job she got was actually just an audition for the national anchor spot. And she knows she isn’t going to get it because there were 20 other more qualified women there. So she calls her old boss to beg for her job back, even after Lily and Barney try to talk her out of it. In fact, Lily finally gives Barney a fist bump when he tells Robin that if she doesn’t believe in herself then no one will. He totally still hearts her. But she goes back anyway and she only has 30 minutes to get there to read the 11:00 news.
So Robin is on her way back to city and Ted is looking through the house for Stella. Instead, he finds her daughter in the hallway saying she heard some loud noises and she can’t get back to sleep without a story. Come on, you know what happens. Ted reads to the adorable little girl and knows he would rather give up New York than give up this family. Looks like Ted is moving. Robin’s not staying put either. She did make it by 11 but the first line was a pun and she knew she couldn’t be a local anchor for one more minute.
Good timing for her because she finds out that even though she didn’t get the national job, she was offered another position. She’s moving to Japan to be a foreign correspondent. I know. Barney’s face was so sad I wanted to give him unlimited fist bumps.
Seriously? Two of them are leaving. No way. I mean, no way, right? I want good things for my Monday night friends but if they leave me I’ll have to find new Monday bff’s. I refuse. I’m holding my arm up, fist ready, in protest.

Can anyone point me to the song that plays during the Robin-hating-her-job montage near the beginning? I know I’ve heard it, but I can’t put my finger on it.
