American Idol: Do You Vote?

By Kelly West: 2008-05-06 20:42:32

American Idol: Do You Vote? Tonight Ryan Seacrest said the competition in this season’s American Idol is closer than ever. Three of the top four have held the most votes at some point in the competition. The question on my mind is: who is actually voting for their favorites this year?

Many Idol fans were outraged when the popular Aussie singer, Michael Johns was eliminated from the competition. People expressed similar frustration when Carly Smithson got the boot. So is it a matter of people not voting? Or is it that the Idol fans who do cast a few votes for their favorites simply can’t compete with the fanatical viewers who spend every available minute (in the allotted voting time-frame) frantically dialing and texting? Not to mention trying to keep up with the people using auto-dialing programs like DialIdol to cast their votes for them.

It feels like every season there are one or two contestants who seem to be doing really well in terms of general popularity and then somehow they get forgotten one week and off they go. Fans freak out, claim the show is rigged and/or swear they’ll never watch another episode of Idol ever again. Then the following week, Ryan reminds everyone how important it is to vote for your favorites.

I want to know what you guys think about all of this.

Do the judges’ comments have any effect on how you vote? Do you find yourself casting sympathy votes for a contestant who got a poor critique from one or more of the judges? Do you think it’s a waste of time to vote because your handful of measly votes won’t make a difference among the millions of other votes? Post a comment or vote in the poll below!

Why can't we vote by computer like we could for America Has Talent?

  1. patty Says:

I don't vote anymore since Michael Johns left. What's the use if you don't vote for two hours straight. The best talent can't win. They should limit calls to one vote per phone.
